Kurgan governor Shumkov accused the Russians of “colonial consciousness” due to the inappropriate use of foreign words

The governor of the Kurgan region, Vadim Shumkov, in a post on his page on the social network VKontakte, reproached the Russians for emphasizing “their own secondary and colonial nature of consciousness” by inappropriately using foreign words and terms.

According to the head of the region, some people, out of naivety or in order to emphasize their exclusivity or significance, consider themselves to be a kind of “fictitious caste” or constantly use newly introduced foreign words, trying to show that they are different from others.

Shumkov noted that after the collapse of the USSR, against the background of the denial of everything Soviet, the country was quickly filled with “descendants of nobles” and those who had “royal officers” in their family, although there were hundreds of times fewer real nobles before the revolution, and junior officer ranks at the end of the First world war massively given due to the death of regular officers.

The Kurgan governor pointed out that in the 90s it became fashionable to look for foreign roots, and the speech of Russians was filled with foreign terms that replaced the words already available in the Russian language, which continues to this day. Shumkov emphasized that there is nothing wrong with the use of foreign words and terms when they are “primary and precise”, otherwise people only emphasize “their own secondary and colonial nature of consciousness.”

The head of the region urged Russians to speak “great and mighty”, be proud of their real ancestors and rely on their traditions and history.
