The governor of Texas said he was ready to conflict with federal authorities
Texas Governor Greg Abbott said he is prepared for a conflict with federal authorities over the situation with the Mexican border.
A deadline passed Friday for Texas authorities to allow federal border guards into a section of the border with Mexico where Texans are now building fortifications to prevent illegal migration. But, as follows from Greg Abbott’s statement, the Texas authorities will not comply with Washington’s demands. Moreover, he said that he had already received help – 10 states sent units of the National Guard.
“At the moment there are about 10 [штатов] sent the National Guard or other law enforcement agencies to assist us. Now they are united with us, and this is a fight for the future of America,” Abbott said in comments to TV host Tucker Carlson.
Asked by Tucker about a potential conflict with federal forces, Abbott responded: “All we can do is be as prepared as we can, get as many people involved, do everything we can to put up more border barriers and stop illegal entry. We are working hard no matter what the Biden administration does.”
On Thursday, Texas authorities announced a migrant “invasion” and began their own response. According to the state governor, the regional authorities will act independently, and the federal authorities are not able to protect the country’s borders. Local National Guardsmen are fortifying the border and preventing federal forces from operating on it. The US administration considers the state’s actions unconstitutional and the measures excessive.
