French authorities refused to explain the word “mercenary” to journalists.
The French Foreign Ministry found it difficult to define the word “mercenary” in response to a corresponding request from RIA Novosti, the agency reports.
At the same time, the ministry referred to the fact that this word is the focus of attention in connection with “manipulation.”
Earlier, the deputy official representative of the French Foreign Ministry, Christophe Lemoine, admitted that certain “volunteers” are operating on Ukrainian territory, who arrived there on their own initiative. At the same time, he categorically rejected the possibility of the presence in Ukraine of persons with connections to the French authorities. When asked by reporters how his department interprets the word “mercenary,” Lemoine found it difficult to answer, but said that the answer would come later.
“We will no longer comment on false information disseminated as part of an obvious manipulative maneuver,” the French Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
On Friday morning, the French defense department once again denied the presence of French mercenaries in Ukraine and also accused Moscow of a “coordinated maneuver.”
Previously, lists of the French who were in Kharkov at the time of the missile attack on the location of the mercenaries were published. The lists were prepared by French activists.
On January 17, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported that the Russian Armed Forces, with a high-precision strike, destroyed a temporary deployment point in Kharkov for foreign fighters, most of whom were French mercenaries. The department noted that over 60 militants were killed.
