The government supported a bill prohibiting the dismissal of widows of military veterans

The Russian government has supported a bill that prohibits employers from firing widows of participants in a military operation on the territory of Ukraine for one year after their death, reports TASS with reference to the cabinet’s response.
The document says that the bill still needs to be finalized taking into account the government’s comments. The government emphasized that the law must prevent discrimination based on gender, so the measures should apply to the husbands of deceased female soldiers, the agency reports.
Bill submitted to the State Duma on September 14, 2023 contributed Deputy Igor Antropenko and Senator Dmitry Perminov. Amendments are planned to be made to the fourth paragraph of Art. 261 TK. Currently, the law does not allow dismissal at the initiative of the employer of a woman who has a child under three years of age, a single mother raising a disabled child under 18 years of age, or a child under 14 years of age. This norm also applies to persons who raise children of these categories without a mother.
