The government has submitted to the State Duma a bill providing a deferment from conscription for military service for employees of the prosecutor’s office and the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation. Document published in the electronic database of the State Duma.

Amendments are being made to several articles of the law “On Military Duty and Military Service.” If adopted, the change will take effect on September 1. This is explained by the desire to “eliminate legal gaps in the regulation of social relations related to military registration of citizens serving in customs authorities.”

Currently, employees of internal affairs bodies, the State Fire Service, bodies of the penal system, compulsory enforcement bodies and customs authorities are exempt from conscription for the duration of their service.

From January 1, 2024, the upper limit of conscription age in Russia was raised to 30 years, while the lower limit remained at 18 years. Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Defense Andrey Kartapolov claimedthat increasing the draft age is necessary for a stable number of conscripts. In December, the head of the Ministry of Defense Sergei Shoigu saidthat there are no plans for additional mobilization in the country.
