The Russian government introduced to the State Duma billwhich proposes to create a National Dictionary Fund – a digital resource that collects data from Russian language dictionaries over the past three centuries.
In explanatory (.pdf) the note to the bill states that the fund will allow solving scientific, educational and practical problems. In particular, the resource will help users test their knowledge of the Russian language and provide an opportunity to avoid mistakes, the document says.
In addition, the note states that the National Dictionary Foundation will allow users to obtain information about the spelling and pronunciation of words, stress placement with possible variations in historical dynamics, as well as the system of meanings of the word being studied. The Foundation will become a publicly accessible and verified source of information about the modern Russian language, the document says.
In February 2023, Russian President Vladimir Putin approved amendments to the law “On the State Language of the Russian Federation”, according to which, in particular, federal authorities should promote “the creation of information resources containing information about the norms of the modern Russian literary language.” July 11 Ministry of Education and Science published for public discussion a bill to create a National Dictionary Foundation.
