It will be possible to buy caviar for the New Year’s table this year without fear of running into counterfeit goods. In November, an experiment on voluntary digital labeling of red and black caviar will start in Russia.

At the end of last year, members of the state commission on anti-counterfeiting proposed to conduct an experiment on marking black and red caviar. And this proposal was supported by the Federal Agency for Fishery, the Union of Enterprises Operating in the Field of Fisheries and Aquaculture, the Fish Union and the relevant committee of the Federation Council, as well as many official producers of sturgeon and salmon caviar.

At the same time, given that the current circumstances related to the amount of fish caught, difficulties with transportation and other circumstances leading to an increase in the price of black and red caviar for consumers, it is emphasized that voluntary participants in the labeling experiment will not incur additional costs in order not to further increase the cost this is not a cheap product.

“The experiment will not lead to additional costs for the participants in the turnover: participation is voluntary and free of charge (there is no fee for the marking code), and the equipment for testing the marking processes for the duration of the experiment is provided by the operator free of charge,” the statement says. message Ministry of Industry and Trade.

In the meantime, according to experts, the total share of black and red caviar, which is supplied to the market illegally, ranges from 20 to 27.5%.

According to the estimates of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the damage from the activities of poachers who supply red and black caviar to the market is more than 15 billion rubles a year.

By the way, from November 1, 2022, the federal law signed by the President of the Russian Federation in July of this year also comes into force, which provides for a ban on the transportation by individuals from the territory of the Kamchatka Territory of more than 10 kg of caviar by air. It will be valid until at least August 25, 2025.

Now mandatory labeling applies to bottled water, dairy products, medicines, tobacco, electronic cigarettes, vapes and liquids for them, shoes, light industry goods, fur coats, perfumes, cameras and tires.
