Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin signed a decree to simplify joining the state program to promote voluntary resettlement to Russia. Document published on the government website. Now, in order to participate in the state program, repatriates will not need to confirm their knowledge of the Russian language at a level sufficient for communication.
The press release clarifies that the innovation will affect:
- Russian citizens permanently residing abroad;
- those who previously renounced Russian citizenship;
- those who were born or permanently resided on the territory of the RSFSR and previously had USSR citizenship;
- citizens who have relatives who were born or permanently resided on the territory of the RSFSR or on the territory that belonged to the Russian Empire or the USSR.
It is clarified that the changes are being made to implement the decree of President Vladimir Putin. From January 1, 2024, the institution of repatriation was introduced in Russia. Last month Mr. Putin also instructed study measures for the repatriation of Russians deported from other countries. In 2023, the program for the voluntary resettlement of compatriots showed the most modest results in the last ten years.
