The Government Commission on Legislative Activities supported the idea of the Ministry of Digital Development to include in the bill on turnover fines for leaks of personal data (PD) a provision on the payment of compensation to victims. This is stated in the conclusion of the commission, which Vedomosti reviewed. According to the proposal of the Ministry of Digital Development, which was supported by the Cabinet of Ministers, payment of such compensation will allow the company to reduce the fine.
Vedomosti’s information about the receipt of government feedback was confirmed by one of the co-authors of the bill, Senator Irina Rukavishnikova (United Russia): “Everything is correct. We plan to take into account the government’s proposals and will soon prepare a bill for submission.” “The issue was considered by the commission,” a representative of the government press service told Vedomosti in response to a question about consideration of the bill on turnover fines for leaks. He declined to comment further.
