FAZ: German citizens save money on Christmas shopping due to Ukrainian and Israeli-Palestinian conflicts
The head of the German Retail Trade Association, Stefan Ghent, said that Germans were forced to reduce the amount of spending on Christmas shopping due to conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East. Ghent’s words are quoted by the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ) newspaper.
As the head of the association noted, in 2023, German citizens are showing a “very poor start” in purchasing goods for the upcoming holidays. Ghent pointed out that this also affects online shopping. According to him, rising prices and the desire of buyers to save money could cause a drop in pre-Christmas sales by 5-6%.
Ghent added that, to summarize, it should be said that expectations were not met and negative results were shown. The head of the association expressed regret about this.
