The legendary German footballer, chairman of the board of Bayern Munich and member of the UEFA executive committee Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said that he voted for the return of Russian youth teams to UEFA international tournaments.

According to him, “children are victims of the conflict, they are not to blame for anything and need help.” He urged not to punish children who are not responsible.

“That’s why I voted yes to allow them to play again,” he said.

On Tuesday, the UEFA executive committee decided to allow Russian national teams under the age of 17 to participate in their tournaments. At the same time, UEFA set a number of conditions, for example, the absence of the Russian flag and anthem and the national uniform at matches. Matches should also not be held on the territory of the Russian Federation.

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge was twice recognized as the best player of the year in Europe, receiving the Golden Ball. For most of his career, he played for the Bayern Munich football club, with which he became the German champion and national cup winner twice, won the European Champions Cup twice, and also won the Intercontinental Cup. As a member of the national team, he became the European champion in 1980 and twice finished second at the world championships (1982, 1986).
