Sanctions against Russian and Belarusian skiers extended

The suspension of Russian and Belarusian skiers from participation in the World Cup will continue in the new season, the Championship reports, citing a statement by the International Ski Federation (FIS). The corresponding document was published on the organization’s website following the results of the autumn session.
“From the position of Sweden and all of Scandinavia, it was pleasant that the FIS decided that it had not changed its opinion on the Russian issue. This turned out to be quite important because there was some uncertainty around this issue,” Larsa Öberga, manager of long-distance relations at the Swedish Ski Association, told Aftonbladet.
According to him, there was no debate in the organization on this issue, and at present the organization sees no reason to allow Russian and Belarusian athletes to start.
Oeberg said his country “has to” take this position along with other Nordic states, but they are “happy.”
