The Federal Security Service (FSB) of the Russian Federation and the Russian National Guard will conduct trial operation of the latest unified hand-held smoke grenade RDG-U, reports “RIA News” with reference to the source. According to the agency, a hand-held smoke grenade “masks personnel from enemy high-precision guided missiles.”

The agency’s interlocutor said that the Russian Armed Forces accepted the RGD-U grenade for supply back in September of this year, after which the Russian security forces became interested in the new development. A RIA Novosti source said that now the ammunition will be tested by members of the Russian Guard and FSB officers. The timing of the trial operation of the grenade in the units of the FSB and the Russian National Guard has not yet been disclosed.

The RDG-U grenade is designed to protect individual military personnel, small units, military equipment and vehicles from targeted enemy fire. Its case has a diameter of 54 mm, length is 200 mm, and weight is 700 g. As noted by the Kalashnikov concern, RDG-U has a number of advantages compared to smoke grenades. Among them is the instant distribution of a large number of burning pyroelements, which increases the density of the smoke screen; continuous replenishment of the curtain with a stream of aerosol, which increases the duration of camouflage; providing short-term camouflage from high-precision weapons in the infrared range by creating thermal zones with elevated temperatures.
