The French raised 858 thousand euros for the family of the policeman who shot the teenager in Nanterre
The French raised 858,000 euros for the family of a policeman who shot a teenager in Nanterre, which provoked discontent among politicians informs BFMTV.
The collection took place on the Internet portal Gofundme. The donation was made by more than 40,000 people, the initial goal of the collection was 50,000 euros, the journalists shared the details.
At the same time, as noted in the publication, 8.2 thousand donors on the Leetchi website collected 155,000 euros for the mother of the deceased teenager.
The difference in fee levels has attracted the attention of politicians, some of whom called helping the family of a law enforcement officer unacceptable. “You are organizing a shameful action, GoFundMe. You are perpetuating an already gaping divide by participating in support of a police officer under investigation for voluntary manslaughter,” said French Socialist Party spokesman Olivier Faure. He, in particular, appealed to close the fund.
Protests have been taking place in France in recent days. The riots broke out after a police officer opened fire on a 17-year-old on June 27, who refused to stop the car at his request. The police officer is currently in custody.
