The Foreign Ministry warned Russians about security risks in Abkhazia
It is not safe for Russians to visit Abkhazia. This statement on Friday, February 16, did Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.
According to the department, on February 2, citizen of the republic E.G. Abukhba, convicted of a crime against a Russian tourist, was released. It is clarified that the Supreme Court of Abkhazia commuted his sentence, which allowed the man to be free.
The Foreign Ministry noted that this case is assessed as resonant, and that it indicates “a very lenient attitude of the Abkhaz justice towards crimes committed on the territory of the republic and the penalties imposed on the perpetrators.”
Thus, the department said, it creates risks for the safety of foreign guests. In this regard, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a warning to compatriots.
Earlier it became known that Abkhazia refused to sign with the Russian Guard draft agreement on the protection of law and order in the republicsince the constitution prohibits the transfer of such issues to the jurisdiction of foreign structures.
