The data of the American journalist Seymour Hersh on the involvement of the United States in the explosions on the Nord Stream gas pipelines cannot but lead to consequences for Washington, declared Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Sergei Ryabkov in a comment to RIA Novosti.
“By and large, yesterday’s publication confirmed what we did as a conclusion for ourselves …” How and in what formats to proceed further, taking into account Hersh’s publication, is a separate issue. I think that there will be consequences of this, they simply cannot but appear,” he said.
At the same time, Ryabkov added that the obvious desire of the West to drag out the investigation and prevent Russian representatives from reaching it was a sign that “the case is not clean”.
In a Feb. 8 article on his website, Hersh, an 85-year-old Pulitzer Prize winner, citing an anonymous source claimsthat US President Joe Biden decided to sabotage Nord Stream after more than nine months of secret discussions with the national security team. The journalist believes that from the first days of the existence of Nord Stream 1, Washington considered the project as a threat to Western dominance.
Hersh claims that American divers planted explosives under the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines during the NATO exercise BALTOPS in the summer of 2022. On September 26 of the same year, a Norwegian naval aircraft dropped a sonar buoy. It was he who set off the explosives, the journalist concluded.
In the White House, all published data denied. State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin after the publication of the article named Biden as a terrorist, and the head of the Constitutional Committee of the Federation Council Andrei Klishas noted that if Washington evades the trial, it will be an admission of guilt. The Kremlin today, February 9, pointed out that the material published by Hersh should speed up the international investigation, but instead the West is trying to silently curtail it.
