Kholmsk hosted the first ever tournament of local children’s sledge hockey teams in the history of the Far East. The tournament was held under the auspices of the Hockey for the Strong in Spirit social project, which is being implemented with the support of the government of the Sakhalin Region. This was reported in the press service of the HK “Sakhalin sharks”.
The Sea Lions team became the hosts of the mini-tournament at the Kholmsk-Arena — it was assembled quite recently and is just taking its first steps in sledge hockey. She was opposed by a more experienced team. — “Sakhalin Lions” from Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, whose pupils were divided into two teams and performed at the tournament as “Sakhalin Lions” and “Rook”.
The sledge hockey tournament has become unique not only for Sakhalin, but for the entire Far East – such competitions have never been held east of Siberia before. The Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk team passed on their valuable knowledge to athletes and coaches from Kholmsk right during the tournament – from the width of the runners of the special sled to the correct placement of the players’ hands on the clubs.
The Sea Lions put up five hockey players for the tournament, and their squad was strengthened by several pupils of the Sakhalin Lions. Good for a debut — the players kept in the sleigh confidently and even imposed a small fight, but both games lost — “Sakhalin Lions” with a score of 2:9 and “Rook” with a score of 2:4. The hosts finished the first tournament with bronze, but their journey in sledge hockey is just beginning — Now the team invites all children with disabilities from Kholmsk to try their hand at a new sport.
The main sensation and culmination of the tournament was the game between Sakhalin Lions and Ladya. And here the fans were in for a real surprise. — Better tuned for the match, but less experienced in sledge hockey, the players of the “Rook” outplayed their teammates from the “Sakhalin Lions” with a score of 7:3, thus winning the tournament.
Yury Dzyubenko became the best goalkeeper of the tournament. Best Defender — the only girl in the teams Lolita Generalova. Best Striker — Ivan Zborowski. Top scorer of the tournament — Konstantin Polyakov.
Ahead of the “Sakhalin Lions” and “Sea Lions” training process and improving skills. Past tournament — the beginning of a great friendship between two children’s sledge teams from Sakhalin and the entire Far East.
