The first results of the university admissions campaign have been announced: a few days left until completion

Only a few days left until July 25 – the deadline for submission of documents. This year, as you know, admission to universities has again undergone revision. The main changes affected the procedure for submitting documents: the applicant’s consent to enrollment was replaced by a system of priorities. There is also a new special quota of 10% of the budget.

MK talked to university admissions committees and applicants to understand how the new admissions campaign is unfolding.

The main optimist on the university field, as always, is the Ministry of Education and Science. Like, more budget places were allocated in 2023 (626 thousand across the country), and 67% of all 11-graders will go to universities (against last year’s 64%).

However, there is another arithmetic. It is estimated that 50,000 more graduates will graduate from the school in 2023 than in the past. 36,000 budget places have been allocated to new territories: LPR, DPR, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions. And a separate quota of 10% has been introduced for participants in the SVO and their children, as well as Heroes of Russia or those awarded with three Orders of Courage. This is in addition to the already existing special quota (also 10%) for the disabled, orphans and war veterans, etc.

And there are also applicants without entrance examinations (BVI), who do not pass any competitions at all, but simply stand at the top of the list. These are winners and finalists of list Olympiads, mainly the All-Russian Olympiad for schoolchildren, as well as members of international scientific Olympiads or Olympic athletes who enter according to their sports profile … Whether 100-point students enter this category is decided by the university itself. As a rule, top institutions do not allow 100-point students to enter without a BVI, but mid-level universities accept them with pleasure.

To this we can add the message of the ministry that 73% of budget places this year were received by regional universities. A simple calculation shows that residents of the metropolitan regions this year can count on a little more than 100,000 seats. For which applicants from all over the country will apply. And in Moscow alone, according to the mayor’s office, 68,000 people graduated from school this year.

“As soon as we found out that the new quota had still appeared, we decided to go straight to the paid one,” says Natalya from Balashikha. – The daughter at school studied averagely, on “4” and “3” basically. She passed the exam well, although she was very worried. But not in vain, it turns out that we studied with three tutors for two years, passed by 227 points. He wants to work in advertising, we decided not to spoil the nerves, and immediately apply for a paid one. The admissions committee said that with this score she would definitely go there. The excitement is still there, of course. Finally, everything will be clarified only by August 20, when the lists of payers will be published.

Universities publish lists of enrolled beneficiaries, target recipients and those enrolled without BVI earlier. Enrollment orders for them will be released on July 28-30. While for the bulk of applicants, everything will also be decided in August: on the 4th-9th, orders for enrollment in the main budget places will be posted.

Last year, as you know, the Ministry of Education and Science allocated almost half of the entire budget for technical specialties, which led to a skew in the distribution of KTsP (admission targets) in universities. Even at well-known universities, passing scores have fallen, and in some places they have announced recruitment. This year, they also added seats in favor of techies, but they did not say by how much. According to the observations of “MK”, ​​the majority of those who want to enroll are still in computer science and computer technology, applied mathematics, robotics and programming. Further, with some margin, there are engineering areas: mechanical engineering, design, technology. Other traditional leaders, linguistics and economics, are in place. But there is no scrap for jurisprudence, perhaps for the first time in recent years. In medical universities, the enrollment targets either remained the same or increased by 1-2 in each specialty.

The new system of priorities will overload the selection committees – such concerns were expressed by experts before the start of the admissions campaign. Alexander Getmanov, executive secretary of the admission committee of the university, tells how admission is going at one of the oldest technical universities, MAI.

– The number of submitted applications currently exceeds the previous year by 40%. As in previous years, IT areas are the most in demand.

MAI, as you know, is among the six universities that are experimenting with a gradual transition from undergraduate to specialist. According to the selection committee, the places in the university were distributed as follows. Basic higher education lasting 5.5 years: 1116 state-funded places, 60 – on a paid basis. Basic higher education lasting 4 years: 50 budget places, 10 – on a paid basis. Bachelor’s degree: 1330 state-funded places, 894 – on a paid basis. Specialist: 150 budget places, 40 – on a paid basis.

The service for applicants to universities works much better this year, where in order to “put” the original into the university, you just need to put a tick. Harmful to the nerves of applicants, hitches in changing the status in the personal account are caused by the sluggishness of the admissions committees. The websites of the universities themselves this year also do not cause any particular complaints. However, the most important thing – the competitive lists and the final selection – is yet to come.

This year, the regions introduced a unified system of admission to head universities and their branches. You can apply for priority and, depending on the points, go to the main university in the regional or district center or to a more modest branch. Of course, a vital factor is always added to the theory: the presence of a hostel at the head university, but they just need money for the road … But all the same, residents of non-capital regions have already appreciated the advantages of centralized admission.

The official acceptance of applications will end on July 25 at 12.00 Moscow time (and on July 20 for those who passed additional entrance tests). On July 27, all universities will post competitive lists. But the real number of seats and your chances can only be assessed after July 30, when the lists of beneficiaries are published.

It is necessary to decide on the choice of the university before August 3, that is, put the original certificate there. An important relief – on the allowed dates, you can change your mind and transfer the original certificate to another university. And which specialty will be enrolled in, the system will automatically determine, based on the priorities indicated by the applicant. On August 9, orders on official transfer to the budget will be published.

“It’s good that this year there will be no madness when children and parents run around with bulging eyes, trying to put the original on the last day,” the admission committee of one of the universities told MK. Yes, we have more work to do, not everyone understands the new system and we have to explain the same thing 10 times. I think that even a few days of waiting will be tedious. Previously, it seemed to the applicant that he determines the choice by giving consent. Illusion, of course, the choice is determined by scores. And now enrollment is automatic and is carried out by the university.
