On January 14, the Russia-Culture TV channel will show the opening of the 1st Khibla Gerzmava International Competition for Vocalists and Accompanists.

The opening ceremony will take place on the stage of the Stanislavsky and Vl. I. Nemirovich-Danchenko. Viewers of the channel “Russia-Culture” will see it on the air on January 14. This event will kick off the competition, which will bring together more than 50 musicians aged 18 to 35 from different countries, including Russia, China, Brazil, France, Mongolia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, South Africa, Armenia, Belarus.

The panel of judges includes leading singers, directors, conductors and opera agents: Andrea di Amici, Dmitry Bertman, Olga Kapanina, Dmitry Vdovin, Irina Soboleva, Alexander Titel, Alexei Shalashov, Larisa Gergieva, Vasco Fracanzani and others. Hibla Gerzmava will head the jury.

Stars of the musical Olympus will perform at the opening concert. The organizer and artistic director of the competition, People’s Artist of Russia Khibla Gerzmava, one of the most sought-after basses of the world opera Ildar Abdrazakov, Honored Artist of Russia, laureate of numerous international competitions Ekaterina Mechetina will take the stage. Also participating are Khibla’s permanent accompanist Gerzmava Ekaterina Ganelina, soloists of the ballet troupe and the MAMT orchestra conducted by Felix Korobov.

The audience will see and hear overtures, arias from operas by Verdi and Bellini, romances by Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninov performed by Khibla Gerzmava and Ildar Abdrazakov, ballet duet by Georgi Smilevsky and Erika Mikirticheva to the accompaniment of Ekaterina Mechetina. At the end of the evening, the pianist will perform the third movement from Rachmaninov’s second piano concerto, whose 150th anniversary the country will celebrate in 2023.
