Italy became the first country in the world to restrict the use of the chatbot ChatGPT
The Italian Office for the Protection of Personal Data in a publication on its official website reported that the agency concluded that OpenAI, which developed the ChatGPT chat bot based on a neural network, violates personal data legislation and does not verify the age of users, despite the age limit of 13+.
The regulator also pointed out that the company did not provide a legal basis for the collection and processing of the data array used to train generative AI.
It is noted that the American technology company was ordered to correct all defects within 20 days or pay a fine, the amount of which is either 20 million euros or 4% of OpenAI’s global turnover. At the same time, as noted in the department, until the final resolution of this issue, data processing in ChatGPT will be banned in Italy.
