The first tourists from China arrived in Russia as part of the restarted visa-free exchange agreement between the Russian Federation and China, according to the Telegram channel of the Russian-Asian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs.
As noted, the coronavirus hit the Russian tourism and hospitality infrastructure hard, and Chinese tourists were the most frequent guests. According to the Chinese Embassy in Russia, 2.25 million Chinese tourists visited Russia in pre-pandemic 2019.
The report says that the launch of the agreement on visa-free travel is a signal for Russian businesses to be ready for the resumption of the flow of tourists from China, especially in Moscow and St. Petersburg.
According to expert estimates, it is still far from reaching pre-pandemic indicators. It is expected that by the end of 2023 the total tourist flow in both directions will reach 500,000.
