Russian Deputy Prime Minister Victoria Abramchenko believes that the 2024 fire season will be more difficult than last year. According to her, the highest class of fire danger is expected from the end of April in the Southern and North Caucasus federal districts, in the south of the Ural and Siberian federal districts.

In this regard, Russian regions need to take measures in advance to combat fires, the Deputy Prime Minister believes. She reported to Telegramthat this year the authorities allocated 17.6 billion rubles to protect forests from fires and purchase forest fire equipment and equipment.

Ms. Abramchenko noted that not all regions are recognized as fully prepared for the fire season. In particular, such entities include the Udmurt Republic, the Altai Republic, Kurgan, Kaliningrad, Jewish Autonomous and Omsk regions, the Deputy Prime Minister said, citing the opinion of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations and Rosleskhoz.

Ms. Abramchenko emphasized that preparation for the fire season in traditionally high-burning regions, including the Krasnoyarsk Territory, Yakutia, Sverdlovsk and Tyumen regions, requires special attention. The Deputy Prime Minister instructed the authorities of the constituent entities, together with the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Roslesokhoz, to eliminate the departments’ comments in the next two weeks and complete preparations for the season.
