A temporary working group has been formed in the Federation Council (SF) to develop a roadmap for the implementation of the updated decree of President Vladimir Putin on the foundations of state cultural policy in terms of the formation of cultural sovereignty. The group included senators Elena Afanasyeva, Alexander Bashkin and Anatoly Shirokov, they will fulfill their task through “dialogues with representatives of civil society, experts, representatives of relevant state structures,” explained the chairman of the commission of the upper house of parliament on protecting state sovereignty and preventing interference in internal affairs RF Andrey Klimov.
On February 2, the first meeting of the new working group in expanded membership was held in the Federation Council. Senator Klimov set the tone for the discussion by quoting American political scientist Zbigniew Brzezinski: “Cultural excellence is an underestimated aspect of American cultural power. Whatever some may think of their aesthetic values, American popular culture radiates a magical attraction, especially to the youth of the world.” In the future, the name of Brzezinski sounded at the meeting more than once, however, the late political scientist no longer had any relation to the subject of discussion.
