The Federation Council recalled the capabilities of the Latvian Navy in response to threats to block the Baltic

Before proposing ideas for closing the Baltic Sea due to an accident on the Balticconnector gas pipeline, the Latvian government should objectively take into account the capabilities of its country’s Navy, said Federation Council member from Kaliningrad Alexander Shenderyuk-Zhidkov.
The senator commented with these words on the words of Latvian President Edgars Rinkevics, who indicated that NATO should close the Baltic Sea to ships. This, in his opinion, should be done if “Russia’s guilt” in damaging the Balticconnector underwater gas pipeline is proven.
The Russian senator called such statements very funny given the fact that the head of state, whose fleet, “according to the Internet, consists of 5 minesweepers from the 80s and a dozen patrol and patrol boats,” is talking about blocking the entire Baltic Sea.
If the calculation is for the US Navy, then, according to a member of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation, it is important not to confuse the Gulf of Finland with the Persian Gulf.
The undersea gas pipeline between Finland and Estonia has been closed since October 8. The pipeline will be able to resume operations, as the relevant services reported, no earlier than April 2024.
