The Federation Council approved the law on additional days off for parents of children with disabilities

Federation Council approved law, according to which parents of children with disabilities have the right to use additional days off for 24 days. The document was unanimously supported by all 155 voters.
Amendments are proposed to be made to Art. 262 of the Labor Code of the Russian Federation. Thus, the parents of a disabled child will be able to use up to 24 additional paid days off in a row once during the calendar year. Only one of the parents (guardian or trustee) has the right to receive additional days off.
The explanatory materials note that the number of disabled children in Russia is increasing every year. According to lawmakers, the total number of disabled children in Russia exceeds 704 thousand. At the same time, in 2020, the Social Insurance Fund paid only 1,384.7 thousand additional days off.
“Thus, on average, there are less than two additional days off provided for one child with a disability during the year out of a possible 48, which is a low indicator,” the document says.
According to the document, the schedule of additional leave must be agreed with the employer if the parent takes more than four paid days in a row.
The law should come into force on September 1, 2023.
