The Federation Council approved the granting of veteran status to volunteers

The Federation Council approved a law that gives volunteers participating in the military operation in Ukraine the status of a war veteran. Veteran status will be given to all volunteers who have taken part in hostilities in Ukraine since February 24.
The document also gives the status of a disabled veteran of military operations to volunteers who were seriously injured during a military operation.
War veterans can receive social assistance from the state, including various payments. For them, the amount of pensions is increased by 32%, tax benefits, benefits for public transport, payment for housing and communal services and state duties are also provided. Veterans can also apply for better living conditions, treatment in a sanatorium and admission to universities on preferential terms.
On March 26, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law recognizing combatants in Ukraine as veterans. In July, this status was extended to doctors and civilian personnel of the army, in August – to border guardsparticipating in the military operation.
