The Federal Tax Service (FTS), based on the state civil registry, has launched a service for selecting a child’s name. Immediately after its launch, the service temporarily suspended its work in order to protect against hacker attacks.
The service database contains 5 thousand unique names that were registered in the civil registry office since October 1, 2018. With its help, parents can choose a name for their child according to various criteria: by the combination of first and middle names, by wishes for the popularity or rarity of the name, by the first letters or length. It is possible to choose a name taking into account regional and national characteristics. The system can also generate a name randomly
In Russia in 2023, the most common names for girls are Sofia, Eva, Anna, Maria and Victoria, and among boys – Mikhail, Artem, Alexander, Matvey and Maxim.
In addition to the service, the portal has published a database of names dating back to 1926. The names are listed in order from most popular to rarest over the last 100 years. You can also see statistics on births and marriages there.
