Director of the Federal Penitentiary Service (FSIN) of Russia Arkady Gostev said that in 2023, more than 1.1 thousand convicts were evacuated from border areas due to shelling. There were no personnel losses, he clarified.

“In connection with the shelling of the civilian population and infrastructure by the neo-Nazi Kyiv regime, more than 1.1 thousand convicts were urgently evacuated from the territorial bodies bordering Ukraine,” said Arkady Gostev at the final board of the FSIN (quote from “RIA News”).

At the meeting, he also stated that more than 1.6 thousand former employees of the Federal Penitentiary Service have joined the Russian Armed Forces and are participating in hostilities on the territory of Ukraine. Of these, he said, 157 died.

On March 19, against the backdrop of intensified shelling, Governor of the Belgorod Region Vyacheslav Gladkov reported on the evacuation of 9 thousand children from the region.
