Although the young man himself asked not to blame anyone for his death
For the first time, the father of the deceased young man is trying to prosecute a psychiatrist who failed to dissuade a 19-year-old patient from committing suicide.
As MK learned, the tragedy occurred in December 2021 in the north of Moscow – a young man, a student at one of the capital’s universities, committed suicide in his father’s house. The guy’s parents divorced in childhood, and he stayed to live with his father (he had better living conditions), but did not communicate with his mother for a long time. She managed to establish contact when the teenager was already finishing school.
The woman was concerned about her son’s mental state. The fact is that by this time the young man had tried drugs. This did not take long to affect his psyche. The young man fell into depression.
The candidate of medical sciences agreed to help the guy. The psychiatrist consulted the patient, prescribed treatment and constantly monitored him. However, all psychotherapy sessions had to be conducted online due to coronavirus.
In this mode, the specialist communicated with the young man from September to December 2021, for many hours.
According to the mother, the sessions helped her son and his mood improved. True, the doctor insisted on hospitalizing the young man, but he did not even want to hear about it. The young man was afraid to upset his father. The man believed that the best cure for bad mood and depression was sports.
Unfortunately, in the end the guy was still unable to control his emotions and committed suicide. In his suicide note, he asked that no one be blamed for his death. Before the fatal step, the student complained to friends that he would not be able to overcome his depression.
The inconsolable father decided that the psychiatrist was to blame for what had happened because she had not prevented the tragedy. He believed that remote treatment only resulted in a worsening of his son’s mental state.
Investigative authorities opened a criminal case under Art. 238, part 2 “c” of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Illegal implementation of medical activities or pharmaceutical activities, resulting in the death of a person through negligence.” However, it is still difficult to say whether the case will be brought to court – it is almost impossible to prove a direct connection between the poor work of a psychiatrist and suicide.
