A funeral was held in Belgorod for the relatives of Sputnik Afghan editor Khaibar Akifi: his four-year-old daughter, father-in-law and mother-in-law. They died in a drone attack. Mr. Akifi himself is in a coma, his wife was unable to come to the funeral because she was in the hospital due to shock, said Margarita Simonyan, editor-in-chief of the Rossiya Segodnya media group and RT television channel.

“The doctors don’t know whether he will come out of this coma or not. And he doesn’t know that he no longer has a family,” said Mrs. Simonyan “Russia 1”.

Mr. Akifi came to Belgorod to visit his family and spend a few days with his loved ones. On the night of October 12, as the editor-in-chief of Rossiya Segodnya reported, a drone shot down by air defense forces fell on a private house on the outskirts of the city. The journalist, his wife, daughter, and his wife’s parents were trapped under the rubble. Mr. Akifi was placed in a medically induced coma and connected to a ventilator. The journalist was diagnosed with severe mine explosion trauma, broken ribs, pelvic damage, brain contusion, and burns to 15% of the body. Doctors assess his condition as stable.
