The exterminator received five years due to the fatal poisoning of two Muscovites with watermelon

The Lublin Court of Moscow on Tuesday sentenced exterminator Anton Kotov to five years in prison in the case of poisoning a family with watermelon.
According to the court decision, Kotov was sentenced to imprisonment for a period of five years with the serving of the sentence in a penal colony. In addition, the court also recovered 6 million rubles from the exterminator in favor of the victims.
It is noted that Kotov was taken into custody in the courtroom. The victims requested that the hearings be held behind closed doors, so their details are unknown.
The investigation data indicate that in September 2021, Kotov treated the trading floor with the food products in it in one of the capital’s stores with the Cigatrin insecticide, including watermelons without packaging. A day later, a family who had bought a watermelon from the store was hospitalized, and out of three people, only the mother survived, while the grandmother and her granddaughter died “of chemical trauma.”
Kotov was found guilty under Article 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Providing unsafe services that negligently caused the death of two or more persons”), but the exterminator did not plead guilty to the deed.
