Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel will discuss economic rather than military issues during his visit to Moscow. This opinion was shared by Viktor Kheifets, Professor of the Department of Theory and History of International Relations at St Petersburg University, Editor-in-Chief of Latin America magazine.
According to the expert, the arrival of the Cuban leader demonstrates that some countries are still ready for dialogue with the Russian Federation.
“Cuba has a certain authority in international affairs, so the Cuban position is a certain sign that there are a number of countries that are ready to conduct a dialogue with the Russian Federation,” he is sure.
Heifetz believes that Diaz-Canel will discuss economic projects in Cuba with Russian President Vladimir Putin. At the same time, a significant expansion of military cooperation, for example, the appearance of a Russian military base in this country, is hardly to be expected. Cuba is skeptical about such issues and does not want it, the expert stressed.
Earlier it was reported that Diaz-Canel arrived in Moscow. Next week he will meet with Putin and take part in the unveiling of a monument to Fidel Castro.
