The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) are shelling the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, about 15 arrivals have been recorded, including from special building No. 2, where fresh nuclear fuel is stored. About TASS informed Renat Karchaa, Advisor to the General Director of Rosenergoatom Concern.

“They were shelling not only yesterday, but also today, they are shelling right now. At the moment, about 15 arrivals at the facilities of the nuclear power plant have already been recorded. Any artillery strikes at a nuclear power plant jeopardize nuclear safety,” he said.

According to him, the Armed Forces of Ukraine attacked special building No. 2, where fresh nuclear fuel is stored. In addition, there are hits in the area of the dry storage site for spent nuclear fuel (ISSF). Karchaa added that now reinforcing structures are being erected at the Zaporizhzhya NPP, the concrete wall was cut with fragments.

Head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov published in his Telegram channel, a video of the shelling. He wrote that the nuclear threat does not come from Russia, but from the “criminal Kyiv regime.”

“Zaporozhye NPP has recently become the object of increased attention of all kinds of experts in nuclear energy, who agree on one thing – an accident at this plant will lead to large-scale consequences, primarily in the western part of the continent,” Kadyrov said.

During a special operation in Ukraine, the Russian military took control of a part of the Zaporozhye region, including the city of Energodar, which houses the largest nuclear power plant in Europe, the ZNPP. The ZNPP external power supply was repeatedly cut off due to shelling, in which Russia and Ukraine blamed each other.

The deputy head of the Russian delegation at a meeting of the First Committee of the UN General Assembly, Konstantin Vorontsov, said that Russia excludes the demilitarization of the ZNPP and the perimeter around it. The Foreign Ministry urged to quickly agree on a security zone around the ZNPP. In early November, the authorities of the Zaporozhye region announced the beginning of the transition of the ZNPP under the jurisdiction of Rosenergoatom.

This week, the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) adopted a resolution calling on Russia to abandon its “unfounded claims” to the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant and withdraw its military and civilian personnel from the plant, handing over control over it to the Ukrainian side. In addition, the resolution states that the checks carried out by the organization did not reveal any traces of the development by Ukraine of the so-called. “dirty bomb”, and the corresponding Russian claims are called unfounded. The Russian permanent mission to international organizations in Vienna called this resolution “another step towards the politicization of the work of the IAEA.”
