“Recently, electronic means of nicotine delivery, which are primarily popular among young people, have become widespread. This is a real fashion that finds more and more new means of influencing society. It is clear that there are not many preventive and educational programs, it is necessary to look for new means of influencing vulnerable groups of the population, primarily young people and women now. In addition, smokers are reluctant to seek medical help, they do not consider their disease a clinical problem,” says Oleg Kutushev.

It is noted that when electronic means of tobacco consumption first appeared, they were called the safest for the body, although this is a harmful and very dangerous myth.

“Electronic nicotine delivery systems are not as safe as we think they are. It must be understood that substances that are in this process, such as glycerin and glycol, release a large amount of toxic substances when heated, ”explains Kutushev.

An alarming factor: the number of women and young people who smoke is growing every year. Smoking has a detrimental effect on the body – memory impairment, impaired fine motor skills, emotional instability. A person who smokes electronic cigarettes often does not realize that he has begun to “vape”, the device is always at hand, which can cause toxic poisoning from frequent use of nicotine. Hookahs are considered even more dangerous than electronic cigarettes. “As a rule, any hookah involves the procedure of inhaling steam for an hour, and the concentration of nicotine is quite high. The toxic nicotine effect is much higher when consuming a hookah,” the expert noted.

Oleg Kutushev believes that journalists can help many with the problem of tobacco addiction by promoting a healthy lifestyle and talking about prevention and risks.

According to statistics, more than 75% of smokers want to quit smoking, this confirms the fact that smoking is a complex problem that society has yet to fight. “I can add that 55% try to do this every year and only 5-7 such attempts are successful,” the doctor notes. There are many departments for combating nicotine addiction in Moscow. Assistance is provided free of charge. It must be remembered that quitting smoking improves the quality and length of life, increases the efficiency and activity of the population.
