Excessive consumption of sugar leads to a number of unpleasant consequences, such as caries, aging, and others, said expert Artem Veris in an interview with Izvestia.
He noted that in order to maintain optimal weight, a person needs to maintain a balance of proteins, fats and carbohydrates, as well as caloric content of food and energy consumption. At the same time, excess calories, especially from sugar, lead to obesity and weight gain, high blood sugar levels and excessive production of insulin. Thus, excessive consumption of sweets leads to metabolic disorders and even type 2 diabetes.
“Sugar can also cause premature aging of the skin,” Verees said, noting that sweets change the composition of human tissues and worsen the condition of the skin.
According to his recommendation, adults are advised to reduce sugar intake to 10% of the total calorie intake, or even to 5% – that’s about 25 grams per day. In the most ideal case, give up sugar altogether.
