An average dog can learn up to 100 words, and the “learning process” continues throughout its life, Vladimir Golubev, President of the Russian Cynological Federation, said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
According to him, some of the smartest dogs are capable of more.
Golubev noted that dogs perceive every word as certain commands or instructions for some action, as well as the names of objects. At the same time, the pet also perceives its nickname as a command to pay attention to the owner.
The expert also noted that dogs are also able to respond to gestures, postures, intonations and other signals of the human body: postures, gestures, intonations. According to him, if the dog does not understand what is required of it, this can provoke stress in it or refusal to follow the commands. Therefore, he recommended that the owners explain what they want to their dog as clearly as possible, while doing this without shouting, but in a calm and friendly voice.
Golubev also said that the dog is very sensitive to the mood of a person.
“Be calm, predictable, don’t yell at your pet, set the rules, learn new commands, encourage your pet, and take enough time to socialize,” he advised.
