The expert explained the risk from an open bank account

An open bank account can lead to unpleasant consequences, such as a worsening credit history and loss of funds, Maria Dergacheva, a specialist at the Sravni financial marketplace, said.
In a comment to the Prime agency, she noted that unclaimed bank accounts should be closed, as well as carefully study the conditions for closing an account by a bank, since the agreement may contain special conditions for paying for account maintenance.
She noted that even an unused account will go into the “minus” due to the connected overdraft, SMS alerts or other services. In addition, it is possible that the account is serviced free of charge only for a salary card, and if a person has changed his place of work, but continues to use it, they can start taking money from him.
Dergacheva noted that if the account has not been used for more than two years, the financial institution has the right to close it unilaterally. However, this only applies to accounts with a zero balance – otherwise, the organization will require zeroing and repayment of the debt, if any.
