The ban on breeding fighting dogs does not make sense, said Vladimir Golubev, president of the Russian Cynological Federation (RKF).

In a commentary to RIA Novosti, he noted that there is a myth about the existence of “fighting breeds” that cannot be trained and are not able to live in a family. According to him, the problem is irresponsible owners.

“There are no fighting breeds,” he said, noting that there is no such thing in cynology.

According to him, the standard of any breed always assumes a stable psyche and mental health of the animal. Therefore, according to Golubev, it is necessary not to ban certain breeds, but to ensure state regulation of this issue, introduce registration of pets, and educate dog owners.

According to him, sometimes fighting dogs mean dogs from the list of potentially dangerous ones, which is not the same thing. The list approved by law includes 12 breeds: Akbash, American Bandog, Ambuldog, Brazilian Bulldog, Bully Kutta, Purebred Alapah Bulldog (Otto), Bandog, wolf-dog hybrids, Wolfdog, Gul Dog, Pit Bullmastiff, North Caucasian dog, as well as mestizos of these breeds .

In addition, as Golubev noted, sometimes “fighting breeds” mean the descendants of dogs that were originally bred to bait other animals. But at the same time, aggression towards people was not fixed in these breeds.

“Secondly, all breeds have a genetic predisposition and this should not be forgotten, but this does not mean at all that they are genetically predisposed to aggression,” he said.

He also stated that there are no stupid or smart dogs, and any pet needs to be educated.
