In July 2022, Solntsevsky Court of Moscow admitted Ilya Belostotsky was guilty of pedophilia (clause “b”, part 4, article 132 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and was sentenced to 14 years in a maximum security colony.

In November 2022 the court softened punishment for the ex-director, reclassifying the charge as indecent acts against minors (Part 2 of Article 135 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). The sentence was reduced from 14 years to 6 years and 6 months in a general regime colony. At the time of signing the contract with the Ministry of Defense, the convict had approximately 4 years and 6 months left to serve.

Ilya Belostotsky was born in 1973 in Chelyabinsk. He graduated from VGIK and has been a member of the Russian Film Directors Guild since 2004. He is known as the director of some episodes of the children’s film magazine “Yeralash” and seven episodes of the series “Sled”. His most recent work as a director was the 2018 children’s film “Run of the Horned Vikings.”
