The epigenetic clock of human spermatozoa, which can be used to determine the biological age of a man, was built by Russian scientists together with their colleagues from abroad.
With age, genetic and epigenetic changes accumulate in mammalian spermatozoa, which can adversely affect the health of offspring, and may even prevent their conception.
As reported by “MK” at Moscow State University. Lomonosov, on the basis of epigenetic changes (chemical modification of DNA) depending on the age and bad habits of a man, scientists managed to build an epigenetic clock of male germ cells. For example, it has been shown that smoking accelerates their aging.
According to Vasily Ashapkin, senior researcher at the A.N. Belozersky Research Institute of Physical and Chemical Biology of Moscow State University, epigenetic (and, consequently, biological) age can be significantly reduced. For example, by establishing a balanced diet, regular exercise, giving up bad habits, and introducing certain dietary supplements into the diet.
