Russian scientists are expanding the range of hours during which it is possible to provide effective assistance to a patient who has had a stroke. Instead of 6 hours – 24.
As the Russian Science Foundation told MK, specialists from the N. I. Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University and the V. P. Serbsky National Research Center for Psychiatry and Narcology have synthesized a new substance that effectively restores motor functions and improves cognitive abilities in animals that have had a stroke. These are derivatives of N-heterocycles – rings of carbon and nitrogen atoms with chemical groups additionally “hung” on them. Thanks to this compound, it was possible to expand the range of the so-called “golden hours”, during which it is possible to significantly improve the condition of a patient with a stroke.
In the future, the researchers hope to test the new compound in humans.
