The published clarifications from the EC say that regardless of whether a vehicle registered in the Russian Federation is used for private or commercial purposes, it can be seized, since it is considered an import prohibited by sanctions.
“Taking into account possible risks, we recommend that Russian citizens refrain from traveling to Finland in cars with Russian registration plates,” the embassy said in a statement in Telegram.
At the end of June it became known about arrest personal cars of Russians when entering Germany. The Federal Customs Service of Germany explained that entering the country by car from the Russian Federation is regarded by customs authorities as a case of possible violation of European sanctions.
Against this background, the European Commission explained that, according to Art. 3i of the EU Council Regulations, there is a ban on the sale and import into the territory of the European Union of a number of Russian goods that are mentioned in Annex XXI, including cars and vehicles that can accommodate less than ten people.
