The electronic barrier between Poland and Russia will be ready for operation by the end of September

Poland has begun testing the first of 12 sections of the electronic barrier on the border with Russia. The system is expected to be operational by the end of September, reported Anna Michalska, press secretary of the Polish border guard, to the PAP news agency.
Construction of an electronic barrier with the Kaliningrad region began in April. It consists of a system of 3,000 cameras and motion sensors divided into 12 sections, with a length of about 199 km.
The last of the 12 electronic containers were installed at the border near the town of Goldap. Michalska noted that these are important elements of the barrier that tie together all the systems in different areas. All equipment has already been installed at one of the sites. This site is located near the village of Shchurkova and is guarded by a border post in the Saintopol region.
“Currently, the contractor is testing this section in order to hand it over to us for acceptance in the coming days,” the representative of the border service specified. Other sections will be accepted sequentially in the coming weeks.
Michalska also added that the construction of the observation center in Kętrzyn is also nearing completion. There will be signals from cameras and sensors.
About plans to build an electronic barrier on the border with the Kaliningrad region of the Polish authorities announced in February.
In response to a report about the start of construction of the barrier, Dmitry Lyskov, spokesman for the government of the Kaliningrad region, explained to Vedomosti that the Kaliningrad region is already protected from the Polish border, so nothing will change for the Russian region with the construction of barriers by Poland. According to Lyskov, the project of barrier structures on the Polish side has been discussed for a long time, so it did not come as a surprise to the regional authorities.
