A lot of famous people have passed away in the last few days. Among them are Yulia Borisova (98 years old), Vera Vasilyeva (97), Leonid Volodarsky (73). Geriatrician, gerontologist Valery Novoselov explained why so many celebrities left us in August. There is nothing mystical here, it’s all about very hot weather, writes website KP.RU.
“Indeed, there is no mysticism in the deaths of our famous artists and other respected people. They were brought to the grave by the heat of early August,” the doctor said.
He recalled that older people are vulnerable to high temperatures. The relationship between an increase in the number of deaths and hot weather has been noticed and studied for a long time. For example, during the abnormally hot summer of 2010 in Moscow, the death rate increased by 11,000 cases compared to the summer of 2009. And in Russia, the number of excess deaths exceeded 44,000.
The doctor stressed that young people adapt better to weather changes. In older people, even without cardiovascular problems, in the heat, a decrease in the pumping function of the heart and a deterioration in the redistribution of blood to the skin due to an insufficient number of capillaries can occur. Also, with age, the volume of sweating decreases, the work of the brain centers that are involved in thermoregulation of the body, and a number of other body functions are disrupted.
Novoselov advised me to leave hot cities for the suburbs in the summer, spend less time in the sun, wear hats, carry a bottle of water and not drink alcohol.
