After drinking alcohol, it is better not to go outside for several hours – at least three. Drinking a small amount of alcohol before going outside is acceptable if you plan to return to the warmth soon. This was announced by Andrei Tyazhelnikov, chief freelance specialist in primary health care for adults at the Moscow Department of Health, in an interview with the agency RIA News.
The specialist noted that New Year’s Eve is expected to be cold, and it is due to alcohol intoxication that most tragedies associated with hypothermia occur.
“It is advisable to stay warm for at least three hours after drinking alcohol, but a small amount of alcohol is acceptable if you plan to go into the warm weather soon,” Tyazzhelnikov said.
He also noted that after drinking alcohol, the feeling of warmth in the cold is actually imaginary, since it dilates the superficial vessels, which is why heat is quickly lost. Increased heat transfer creates a heat front around a person, so he does not freeze, the specialist said.
“Because of this, the cold receptors on the skin are turned off and the brain does not give the command to spasm peripheral blood vessels to stop heat loss. At the same time, the body temperature drops quickly,” the specialist concluded.
Earlier, leading specialist of the Phobos center Evgeny Tishkovets said that after 15.00 on December 31 The air temperature will begin to drop to sub-zero values.
