Allergist Varlamov named seafood, red fish, nuts among allergenic foods for children
Foods that most often cause allergic reactions in children named “Gazete.Ru” pediatric allergist-immunologist of JSC “Medicina” (clinic of Academician Roitberg) Evgeny Varlamov.
Very strong allergens, according to him, are seafood (shrimp, crabs, shellfish and others). They can cause severe reactions.
You need to be careful with red fish – according to the doctor, it “contains a large amount of the amino acid histidine, from which histamine (a substance responsible for the development of allergy symptoms) is formed.”
In addition, nuts often cause allergic reactions in children – hazelnuts, walnuts, pistachios, cashews and others. Here, as Varlamov noted, it is important to understand that “if you are allergic to one type of nuts, allergic reactions may also occur to other nuts.”
A serious allergic reaction can be caused by peanuts and products that contain them.
With caution, citrus and exotic tropical fruits, as well as some berries, should be introduced into the children’s diet. “Most often, allergies are caused by strawberries, strawberries, raspberries, blackcurrants and blackberries,” the allergist noted.
Whether a child will be allergic to honey, according to the doctor, is easy to determine in advance: “If symptoms such as itching in the eyes, a runny nose are noted during the flowering period, then most likely he will be allergic to honey,” Varlamov said and explained that “all because pollen can get into honey.”
The doctor recommends offering any new product to the child in small quantities and carefully monitoring the reaction. It is also not necessary to give children “several new foods at the same time”, because “even the most harmless, at first glance, food can cause rashes, itching and swelling.”
