A court in Moscow sentenced the deputy head of the capital’s main directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation, the chief inspector for small courts in Moscow, Sergei Zotov, in a bribery case. The press service of the department reported this on Monday, April 1.

The court found the defendant guilty of five counts of receiving a bribe and two counts of giving a bribe.

For these crimes, Zotov received 2 years and 6 months of imprisonment in a general regime colony. He must also pay a fine of 300 thousand rubles.

The detention of Sergei Zotov became known in December 2022, at the same time two more defendants were arrested – senior inspector of the State Inspectorate for Small Boats Alexander Kalashnikov and private individual Alexei Klimov. According to investigators, Klimov gave a bribe of 400 thousand rubles so that inspectors would issue three certificates of the right to operate ships. Kalashnikov and Zotov wrote a confession.

The Prosecutor General’s Office said that in Russia in 2022, more than 7,500 items of property of corrupt officials with a total value of over 90 billion rubles were turned into state income. The head of the department, Igor Krasnov, reported to Russian President Vladimir Putin that in 2022, work to combat corruption great attention was paid.
