The daughter of a Russian returned from captivity: 13-year-old Gali was held by Hamas for two months

In Israel, 13-year-old Gali Tarashchanskaya, a minor hostage who was held captive by Hamas for almost two months, returned home. MK was the first in Russia to write about her fate.
All this time, Gali’s father, Ilya Tarashchansky, and the girl’s mother, his ex-wife, remained in Tel Aviv in the square near the Tel Aviv Museum, along with relatives of other people captured by militants. They sought from the authorities a solution to the issue of a speedy exchange. There was no information about whether the girl was alive or what happened to her until the last moment. But she was number one on the exchange lists.
Ilya and his family, first the first, then the second, lived in the Beeri community on the border with the Gaza Strip. He is one of the few in Israel who has maintained moderate views in relations with the Palestinians and supported a two-state solution. Perhaps because the man himself grew up in the Soviet Union on the slogans of internationalism and brotherhood, he repatriated from the Far East in 1996, but also left his Russian citizenship.
His daughter Gali and son Lior are native Israelis. 16-year-old Lior died on October 7. Like Ilya’s first wife. Few survived in their community. Gali disappeared. She was neither among the living nor among the dead – that means she was a hostage. And so the girl received freedom.
Two more Israeli women with Russian passports were also released: mother and daughter, 73-year-old Irina Tatti and 50-year-old Elena Trufanova. They were taken to Egyptian territory, and from there the Israeli authorities took them through the Red Cross.
“It must be said that even though they are Russians by first citizenship, they have been living in Israel for a long time, they have double passports, like most of the repatriates, so it is unlikely that they will return to Russia now,” they clarified the situation on the spot. They also added that former hostages are sent to Egypt so that Hamas and Israel do not have any common ground. Everything happens remotely. Like during quarantine.
“Now they are trying to exchange living Palestinians for the corpses of Israelis, for us the bodies of the dead are very important, but it is still more important at the moment to rescue the survivors,” Jerusalem journalist Leonid Belotserkovsky expressed his point of view.
For Galya Tarashchanskaya, everything ended relatively well. How did these two months of uncertainty change her father? He spoke about this at an online meeting with journalists in Jerusalem a week ago.
Oddly enough, mercy still remained in his heart, and he tried, if not to justify, then at least to understand those who attacked his home. Although it was clear that it was incredibly difficult for a man to say this.
“When you subject a person to repression, nothing good will come of it. Hamas is not only a product of the views of Palestinians, but also a reaction to the pressure and prolonged repression that has been happening in the Gaza Strip for 20 years, when a person has no choice,” the man said, noting that all these years they themselves lived in “the illusion of security, We believed that we would be protected, but suddenly we found ourselves as fish thrown ashore.”
Nevertheless, quite a large number of Israelis believe that the exchange of hostages and a temporary ceasefire is beneficial to Hamas, but not to Israel. They believe that this is a mistake, like the high-profile release of captured IDF corporal Gilat Shalid, who, as a result of five years of negotiations, was exchanged for more than a thousand Palestinian prisoners.
