Citizens of Ukraine who received refugee status in Denmark during the conflict will have to return to their country after the end of hostilities, said the kingdom’s Immigration Minister Kaare Dybvad Bek. He is quoted by RIA Novosti.
He also stated that Denmark has already transferred billions of aid to Kyiv, so the repatriation of Ukrainians cannot be regarded as “leaving them in the lurch.” Beck said that the Danish authorities “have nothing to be ashamed of,” and the citizens of Ukraine themselves should be interested in the restoration of their homeland.
The minister also said that the Ukrainian authorities would also like to see the return of their citizens. According to him, although Ukrainians are culturally closer to the Danes compared to people from the Middle East, they live “completely differently.” He also called on Ukrainians coming to Denmark to “learn not to hit their children.”
According to data at the beginning of December, just over 30 thousand refugees from Ukraine were registered in Denmark. A special law that guarantees them a residence permit and access to the labor market is valid until March 2025.
