Czech President Petr Pavel called Russia the “main threat” to Europe. He stated this at a meeting of the heads of state of the “Visegrad Four” (also known as the “Visegrad Group” or V4 – an association of four Central European states: Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary – approx. ed.), transmits Blesk edition. In addition, the Czech President called on European armies to prepare for a “high-intensity conflict.”
“Not only the Czech Republic, but also NATO perceives Russia as the number one threat in Europe, and this implies the need to realistically prepare for such a threat,” Petr Pavel said at the meeting. “All armies are taking it seriously, all armies are preparing for the possibility of a high-intensity conflict in Europe.”
The V4 presidents began negotiations on Wednesday, November 22, in Prague. Among the topics they intend to discuss during the meeting are Russia’s ongoing military aggression against Ukraine, the impact of the consequences of this conflict on neighboring countries and increased aid to Kyiv from its allies. Another main issue in the discussion between the presidents of the Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary and Slovakia, Petr Pavel, Andrzej Duda, Katalin Nowak and Zuzanna Caputova, was the fight against illegal migration.
Petr Pavel has served as President of the Czech Republic since March 9, 2023. He is 62 years old. He became the 4th President of the Czech Republic, replacing Milos Zeman in this post. In the past, Pavel was Chairman of the NATO Military Committee (2015-2018). This politician became the first representative of an Eastern European state in this position. Between 2012 and 2015, Pavel was Chief of the General Staff of the Army of the Czech Republic.
